Our mission
Our mission is to help every child we serve, regardless of ability, reach their full potential and live a fulfilling, joyful life while providing parents with the education, resources and support to better connect with their children.
We fulfill this mission by bringing a fun, play-based and nurturing approach to ABA therapy to address each child’s academic, social, and behavioral needs while helping parents navigate these methods to help them generalize learned skills at home and in the community!
About NY Behavior Therapy
ABA Therapy Providers
New York Behavior Therapy was founded in 2014 to provide direct 1:1 ABA therapy to children with Autism and other developmental disabilities. We love connecting with each child and family while watching them thrive. We are passionate about making sure they are set up to succeed at home, school, and in the community. Since we opened our doors, we’ve expanded to provide in-school support services, parent education and training, and a wide variety of activities for the children we serve, including community outings, play groups, and social events!
We pride ourselves in remaining a tight-knit, family-focused organization. Our founders, Lisa and Tess, are connected to every family and are involved in every child’s programs and services - we know that effective programs can’t be written based on a file or an evaluation, which is why Lisa and Tess get to know every client and each family becomes part of the NYBT family!
Seminars
In addition to being Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs), the founders of New York Behavior Therapy, Tess and Lisa, are moms! As moms of toddlers, they quickly discovered that many of the methods of ABA therapy that help children with Autism and related disorders learn new skills, can be modified and used to help all children learn and acquire new developmental milestones.
This led to an exciting opportunity to provide parents of toddlers with effective strategies and necessary tools to successfully navigate those difficult early years! Now, we host sold-out seminars to teach parents our secrets. By applying the principles of ABA we provide seminars which focus on potty training and toddler behaviors. As parents we have discovered that what is often the hardest part of the toddler and early childhood stage is creating a positive experience for the whole family!
Meet the Founders of NY Behavior Therapy
Lisa Linden, BCBA-D
Lisa is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst who specializes in developing and implementing personalized behavior assessments to children and creating therapy programs to be used in both home and school settings. She has a Ph.D. and two Master’s Degrees from Columbia University in Applied Behavior Analysis and her dissertation on Observational Learning has been published in the Library of Congress.
While she has conducted and produced research on how to best increase learning and social skills for children both with and without developmental disabilities, her true passion is in working with children and parents directly! Before opening NY Behavior Therapy in 2014 with Tess, Lisa spent several years providing direct ABA therapy, training teachers on how to better serve students with developmental disabilities, and providing support, guidance, and education to parents.
As a mom herself, Lisa loves working with other parents, answering their questions, and helping them feel confident and supported in their choices and actions. However, as a toddler mom, she knows of no other time when parents need that confidence and support like during potty training!
That’s why she and Tess host fun, informative potty training and toddler focused seminars, applying principles of ABA that make potty training and raising a toddler stress free!
Lisa, a mom of two toddler girls, uses the strategies she teaches to apply to her own daughters making her an expert in the real world of toddler living while still having fun.
Tess Kaner - BCBA
Tess Kaner is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst who specializes in developing social skills, potty training, and parent/caregiver behavioral training. After receiving a Master’s Degree in Applied Behavior Analysis from Columbia, she spent four years providing ABA therapy directly, both in schools and homes, including teaching at the Fred S. Keller school and as a therapy team lead at YAI.
Tess is passionate about using evidence-based behavior training to help children with and without developmental delays increase and improve their skills. She is especially focused on working with children and parents because she knows team effort is essential to getting the best results.
With her experience in potty training and parent education, and now her personal experience as a toddler mom, she has blended all that knowledge into a mission to help parents successfully potty train their children. Her tactics are highly effective for both toddlers and children with developmental delays.
She and Lisa have not only joined forces to provide services to children, they also host in-demand potty training and toddler focused seminars around New York!
During the (very rare!) times when she’s not working or holding seminars, she’s spending time with her own toddler and her husband! She loves teaching her daughter new things, sharing new experiences with her, and introducing her to the world!
